Responsibilities: Church Planting Intern
Family: I am married to the love of my life, Andrea Newkirk. Andrea and I met in middle school, were friends through high school, and ended up dating while we studied the same major in college.
Hometown: Well, I guess I'd say Edmond, Oklahoma but I moved around a ton before I lived there. I still consider Phoenix, Arizona the motherland.
Education & Experience: I received my Bachelors of Arts at the wonderful University of Central Oklahoma - GO BRONCHOS! I am currently working on an MDIV from Southern Seminary and should be finished up in a year. Before Louisville, I was a student pastor in Oklahoma City. I served at that church in some capacity for over nine years.
Vision for Church Planting/Future ministry: I feel called to pastor people. I love teaching, vision casting, leading, and developing leadership. I would absolutely love to devote my life to a city and body that needs a congregation. I love seeing sinners saved and nominal Christians go "all in." I would consider it an honor to pastor a body of believers who are devoted to reaching their city for the Lord.
What brought you to Sojourn?: I am constantly blown away by how deliberate the services at Sojourn are. Every song, liturgy and message is constantly rehearsing the gospel. We love it. We appreciate Sojourn's willingness to celebrate Christian freedom and liberty. Additionally, we appreciate the constant explication of "why we do what we do." We love being a part of this body.
Favorite movie/ TV show: Braveheart, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, and Tommyboy / we don't get many channels - a couple Christian channels, Spanish channels, and infomercials. So, basically I don't get to watch much tube.
Favorite music/ band: Ohhhh.... that’s tough. All time favorites: Guns 'n Roses, Jimmy Eat World, Ray LaMontagne and Smashing Pumpkins Current favorites: Bon Iver, Explosions in the Sky, This Will Destroy You, and Across the Universe Soundtrack
Favorite book other than the Bible: Anything by Paulo Coelho
Hobbies/interests: I love reading, studying, and learning. I love listening to music and finding new tunes. I also love drinking good coffee and enjoying good company. I also dig on watching sports and yelling at the TV. Additionally, any day I can make out with my wife is a good day.
