Midtown Students

S2 is our student ministry for middle school and high school students. It exists to create relationships with students and families to reach them with the Gospel, build students to be like Christ, and release them to tell others about the Gospel.

We believe that only the good news of Jesus Christ can change students, families, neighborhoods, and schools. As we minister to students and families, we are inviting your family into the church family of Sojourn. We never want S2 to replace Sunday services, but provide a safe, student relevant environment, focused on growing them in Jesus to be the church.

Due to the rapidly changing circumstances of COVID-19, Sojourn Students will not meet until the Sojourn Midtown Elders, Sojourn Collective, and government have deemed it safe for us to meet in large groups again. While this is disappointing, we believe it is the best and safest way to show our obedience to God and our government by loving our neighbor well in stopping the spread of COVID-19.

However, the Sojourn Students and Sojourn Kids team have prepared weekly lessons and devotionals for you all to benefit from during this hiatus! You can get all of the the lessons and devotions for kids, students, and families by clicking on the following link:

Where & when do we meet?

Sojourn Students meets on Sundays from 5:40-7:30pm in the Meridian Building (1303 S. Shelby St.) a couple blocks south of St. Vincent’s Cathedral (where Sojourn Church Midtown has their weekly gatherings). Signs will point you towards the parking lot near Save A Lot, and you should see leaders and students welcoming you into the building! The main gathering takes place on the second floor, splitting up throughout the night for teaching and community groups.

What to expect:

Sojourn Students focuses on building community and gospel-centered teaching and worship. At the beginning of each gathering, students will enter grade and gender specific community groups led by adult leaders. During this time, students will be encouraged to share life updates, prayer requests, and challenged on what they have been learning in their relationship with Christ. After community groups, we jump into a time of worship and teaching. The worship and teaching time follow a different theme each month, accompanied by a memory verse and catechism question for students to memorize.

Each meeting has a 3:1 ratio of students to leaders. Each leader is background checked and is a member in good standing at Sojourn Church Midtown. The door is usually locked by 6:05PM for safety reasons, so try to make it on time! We are committed to discipleship and student safety in every student gathering.
